Safety Alert: Verify Utility Crews Before Allowing Access to Your Property

Fayette Electric Cooperative is reminding members to remain vigilant after a recent report of suspicious individuals performing tree trimming near power lines without proper identification.

A member in the La Grange area reported that two men arrived at her residence in a plain white pickup truck with no company logo and no visible identification. The individuals stated they were there to trim trees near the power line. The men did not provide names, could not clearly identify who they were working for, and were not wearing uniforms consistent with utility or contractor crews.

While the individuals trimmed some limbs near the power line, one of the men later began discussing unrelated handyman services and performed additional work near the home’s service drop without authorization. Fayette Electric Cooperative has confirmed the individuals were not employees or contractors working on behalf of the cooperative.

FEC personnel later inspected the location to ensure the service equipment was safe and unharmed.

FEC crews and approved contractors will always:
•    Arrive in clearly marked vehicles
•    Wear company-issued uniforms
•    Be able to identify themselves and explain the work being performed

If someone appears on your property claiming to be trimming trees or working on electric facilities and cannot provide proper identification or proof that they are authorized to be there, members are urged to contact Fayette Electric Cooperative immediately and then notify the local sheriff’s department.

FEC appreciates members who report suspicious activity and encourages everyone to stay alert to help keep our communities safe.

For questions or to report suspicious activity, contact Fayette Electric Cooperative directly using the phone number listed on your electric bill or the cooperative’s official website.
