Membership Meetings
FEC’s membership meetings empower members, shape leadership, and strengthen our cooperative community.
The co-op service territory is divided into seven districts. Each district is represented by one Director. In defining the district, the Board of Directors shall bear in mind the desirability of having the Directors well distributed over the cooperative area, the size of the district, and the number of Members in the district.
District meetings are held each May in areas where Directors’ terms are set to expire that year. These meetings give Members in those specific districts the opportunity to nominate candidates for election at the annual membership meeting, which takes place on the third Wednesday in July.
In accordance with Article III, Section 3.08 of the cooperative’s bylaws, a district meeting will be held in Districts 6 and 7 to take action upon the following matters:
- For the purpose of selecting one or more persons as candidates for Director to represent the Members located within such district, and
- Any other matters pertaining to the business of the Cooperative.
An election will be held to nominate one or more persons as candidates for Director to represent the Members located within such district.
Each voting Member in attendance will receive a $10 bill credit. Drawing for door prizes will be held at the close of the meeting.
District 7 Meeting:
The District 7 meeting was held May 11 in Fayetteville. Members confirmed a quorum, selected meeting leadership, and opened the floor for director nominations. Incumbent Director David A. Stancik was nominated and ran unopposed. Following a show-of-hands vote, he received the required majority and was declared the sole candidate for District 7.
District 6 Meeting:
The District 6 meeting took place May 12 in Weimar and followed the same process. After confirming a quorum and conducting nominations, incumbent Director Clayton Wessels ran unopposed and received the required majority vote to be declared the sole candidate for District 6.
More than 500 members and guests attended Fayette Electric Cooperative’s Annual Membership Meeting on July 15 at the KC Community Center in La Grange, with 372 members registering to participate in cooperative business, hear updates on the co-op’s progress and celebrate another successful year.
The meeting highlighted FEC’s continued focus on reliability, financial stewardship and community investment. In the annual report presentation, General Manager and CEO Doug Lambert shared how the cooperative has worked over the past year to strengthen its financial position, improve operations and make strategic investments that will serve members for years to come.
“Our focus has been clear and deliberate: protect the long-term strength of your cooperative, improve our financial position and continue investing in the reliability of the system our members depend on every day,” Lambert said.
Accounting and Finance Manager and CFO James Kielty discussed the cooperative’s financial planning efforts, including a cost-of-service study, rate analysis and continued attention to expense management. These initiatives are helping position FEC for long-term financial stability while supporting critical infrastructure investments.
Assistant General Manager and COO Brandon Pieper provided an update on system reliability initiatives, including enhanced vegetation management efforts and the implementation of AI Dash, a data-driven tool that helps identify high-risk areas and prioritize right-of-way maintenance. He also noted that FEC maintains more than 3,000 miles of overhead distribution lines and has increased its right-of-way clearing cycle to help reduce outage and wildfire risks.
Members re-elected District 6 Director Clayton Wessels and District 7 Director David A. Stancik by acclamation after both were unopposed following nominations during district meetings in May.
The meeting also highlighted FEC’s commitment to education and community involvement. Scholarship recipients were recognized, and members learned about the cooperative’s Youth Tour program, which recently sent two local students to Washington, D.C., as part of the Government-in-Action Youth Tour.
In addition, members were introduced to Power of Change, FEC’s new voluntary bill-roundup program that will support charitable projects and assistance efforts throughout the cooperative’s seven-county service area.
The evening concluded with the annual door prize drawings, where members won gift cards, bill credits, televisions and other prizes. The event provided an opportunity for members, directors and employees to celebrate the cooperative’s accomplishments while reinforcing FEC’s commitment to providing reliable service and serving its communities.
For many employees, the meeting also reflected the cooperative spirit that has guided FEC for generations—connecting with members, sharing information and demonstrating the value of local, member-owned electric service.
