Fayette Electric Cooperative Seeks Applicants for 2027 Government-in-Action Youth Tour

Fayette Electric Cooperative is now accepting applications for its 2027 Government-in-Action Youth Tour contest, allowing local high school students to earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

The Government-in-Action Youth Tour is a longtime leadership program sponsored by Texas' electric cooperatives to help young people learn more about government, leadership, and public service. Through the program, students from across the state and nation travel to the nation's capital, where they visit historic landmarks, explore museums and memorials, meet elected officials, and gain a firsthand understanding of the democratic process.

Fayette Electric Cooperative will sponsor two local students to participate in the 2027 Youth Tour, scheduled for June 14-21, 2027.

Since Texas electric cooperatives first participated in Youth Tour in 1965, more than 4,700 Texas students have taken part in the memorable experience. The program continues to provide young leaders with opportunities to develop leadership skills, build lasting friendships, and broaden their perspectives while representing their local communities.

To be eligible, applicants must:
•  Be a high school sophomore, junior, or senior.
•  Be a dependent of a Fayette Electric Cooperative member with permanent residence in the cooperative's service area or attend a school served by      the cooperative.
•  Submit a completed application.

Applications must be received by January 15, 2027.

"We are proud to invest in the future leaders of our communities," said Tracy Denton, director of marketing, communications, and training for Fayette Electric Cooperative. "Youth Tour provides students with an incredible opportunity to learn about our nation's history, government, and the cooperative difference while developing leadership skills that will benefit them for years to come."
