Fayette Electric Cooperative’s Community Reinvestment Grant Program has awarded $10,000 to the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture/Visitor Center to support initiatives designed to promote tourism, strengthen local businesses, and enhance community engagement throughout the region.
The Community Reinvestment Grant Program is funded through Fayette EC’s unclaimed capital credits. Rather than allowing those funds to escheat to the state, Fayette EC reinvests eligible unclaimed capital credits back into the communities it serves through grants that support education, economic development, community enrichment, and quality-of-life initiatives. The program reflects the cooperative principle of Concern for Community by helping local organizations undertake projects that create lasting benefits for residents.
"The Community Reinvestment Grant Program allows Fayette Electric Cooperative to invest unclaimed capital credits back into the communities we serve," said Tracy Denton, Director of Marketing, Communications and Training at Fayette Electric Cooperative. "The Hallettsville Chamber’s vision for promoting tourism, supporting local businesses, and creating new opportunities for community engagement aligns perfectly with the purpose of this program. We are proud to support initiatives that strengthen local economies and enhance quality of life in our rural communities."
The grant will help fund a three-part initiative focused on tourism promotion, business visibility, and community development. A key component of the project is the creation of a professional tourism marketing strategy. The Chamber will work with a marketing consultant to develop cohesive messaging and identify attractions, businesses, cultural assets, events, and experiences that showcase Hallettsville and the surrounding area as a destination for visitors.
"This grant will help us tell the story of Hallettsville in a more strategic and impactful way," said Jennifer Hagan, Executive Director of the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture/Visitor Center. "From creating a digital tourism guide and interactive map to investing in technology that supports community events and business development, these resources will help us better serve residents, visitors, and local businesses while showcasing everything our community has to offer."
Grant funds will also support the development of a mobile-friendly digital tourism guide and interactive map. The online resource will provide real-time information about local businesses, attractions, dining options, retail establishments, community events, and points of interest. Chamber leaders anticipate that the tool will increase visibility for small businesses, encourage visitors to explore more of the community, and improve access to local information through QR code integration at events and public locations.
In addition, the Chamber plans to purchase tablets that will enhance visitor engagement, event coordination, workforce development programs, business workshops, community meetings, and educational activities. This investment in technology is expected to strengthen the Chamber’s ability to serve as a hub for economic and community development.
This project is also expected to increase customer traffic to locally owned businesses, support tourism-related spending, encourage job creation, improve access to digital information, and strengthen community engagement throughout the area.
The investment comes as Hallettsville continues to gain recognition as a destination for travelers and visitors. In 2025, the community earned designation as a Tourism-Friendly Texas Certified Community, recognizing local efforts to promote heritage, hospitality, and economic growth through tourism development.
By investing in innovative tourism promotion tools and community engagement resources, the Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture/Visitor Center aims to attract more visitors, support local businesses, and highlight the unique charm, culture, and hospitality that make Hallettsville a destination worth discovering.
About Fayette Electric Cooperative’s Community Reinvestment Grant Program
Fayette Electric Cooperative’s Community Reinvestment Grant Program reinvests eligible unclaimed capital credits into projects that enhance the quality of life in the cooperative’s service area. These funds do not come from member electric rates and do not impact the cooperative’s financial health.
Instead, the program utilizes eligible unclaimed capital credits that would otherwise be turned over to the state. By reinvesting those funds locally, Fayette EC can support initiatives focused on education, economic development, community enrichment, and other projects that create meaningful, long-term benefits for the communities it serves. Through this program, the cooperative demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the cooperative principle of Concern for Community by helping local organizations make lasting, positive impacts across the region.
