To start new service in a location where no electric service is available, the following steps will need to be completed by the applicant or cooperative personnel:

To obtain new service at a location that has not previously had electricity call the New Service Department at 979-968-3181 or 1-866-968-3181 and schedule an appointment for Cooperative personnel to meet the applicant or member at the location of the new service.

Please have the following information available before calling:

  • Name
  • Mailing Address
  • Phone number
  • Physical Address or be able to provide directions
  • What the location will be used for (Example:  Residence, water well, barn, etc.)

Appointments are normally scheduled at the following times, Monday thru Friday:

  • Morning: 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
  • Afternoon: 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The applicant, at the time of application, will pay all membership fees, deposits, connection costs, line extension costs, and any other amounts which are required by rules of the Cooperative before the job will be scheduled for construction.

Membership in the Cooperative is not transferable.

The membership fee is credited to the Member's final bill when service is discontinued.

Application for electric service must be in the legal name and signed with the legal signature of the person or entity requesting electric service. The Cooperative may require suitable identification.

Credit Checks are performed by a third party vendor, Online Utility Exchange. A utility score, not a credit bureau score, is returned that reflects both the positive and negative aspects of your entire credit history file.

The credit check is optional; however, if not processed, a deposit will automatically be required.

Applicants for new service will need to furnish to the Cooperative a Right-of-Way Easement at no cost to the Cooperative. Any cost with obtaining the necessary easements and permits are the responsibility of the applicant.

Read more information on Easements HERE.

FEC constructs power lines to our Members on easements provided by the property owners.  These easements provide access to our crews in order to maintain the power lines and to keep the rights-of-way clear of trees and brush.

Right-of-way clearing is a continuous, preventative maintenance program that involves trimming the trees, removing dead and dangerous trees, and removing underbrush. A properly maintained right-of-way helps to reduce or eliminate power outages by keeping limbs and trees away from power lines.

The minimum distance to cut back trees and brush is:

  • Single phase lines:  20 feet (10 feet on each side of the line)
  • Three phase lines:  30 feet (15 feet on each side of the line)

FEC contractors will attempt to remove right-of-way clearing debris by the use of a chipper. If FEC contractors are unable to clear the debris by use of a chipper, it is the applicant/Member's responsibility to remove the debris.

The meter loop specifications listed are for up to 200 AMP service only.  Please contact the Engineering Department at 979-968-3181 or 1-866-968-3181 for service over 200 AMP.

On any new or existing locations that require excavation (breaking ground), FEC is required by State Law to call in for line location for the locating of gas lines, telephone lines, etc. before the location will be released for construction.

No posters, banners, placards, signs, light fixtures, radio or television antennas, satellite dishes, basketball backboard, fences, structures, electric conductors not owned by the Cooperative or any other type of foreign object may be attached to or installed on the Cooperative’s poles, property or equipment.

Any person who violates this provision shall be notified and requested to remove all foreign objects and/or equipment from the Cooperative’s property.

The Cooperative shall retain ownership of all materials and equipment installed by the Cooperative for the extension of service to the member and retains the right to service others from any line or any extension without refunding any part of the Aid To Construction cost or crediting any bill.
