Fayette Electric Cooperative’s lineworkers were recognized on April 12, National Lineman Appreciation Day, for the admirable job they do in keeping the lights on for the over 9,990 members that the Cooperative serves.
FEC’s lineworkers are responsible for maintaining over 2,946 miles of overhead and underground lines across seven counties.
Being a lineworker is not a glamourous profession. At its essence, it is inherently dangerous, requiring them to work near high voltage lines in the worst of conditions – heat, wind, rain, ice and snow - at any time of the day or night. During hurricanes, wildfires or storms, crews often work around the clock to restore power.
FEC acknowledges that the work our lineworkers do can be dangerous, particularly during extreme events where weather and the time of day can cause difficult working conditions. With such dangerous work to be done every day, our lineworkers are highly trained, possess amazing skills, and take all necessary safety precautions.
During the month of April, if you see a lineworker, please pause to say thank you to the power behind your power. Let them know you appreciate the hard work they do to keep the lights on, regardless of the conditions.
