Fayette Electric Cooperative employees recently participated in the Progressive Ag Safety Day held at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on May 12. Safety Coordinator Larry Sulak narrated, while Lineman Justin Whited and Apprentice Lineman Justin Neiser demonstrated a variety of different scenarios that children could find themselves in while playing outside around electricity. These demonstrations included an electric arcing demo, a kite contacting an electric line, tree limbs touching electric lines, clothing contacting a power line as well as several others.
The linemen also demonstrated the different protective gear they wear to help them stay safe and what could happen if their gear was defective. Sulak stressed the importance of staying away from power lines and pad mount transformers and that Fayette Electric Cooperative takes safety very seriously.
