James Anderle, locally elected director from Fayette Electric Cooperative, was recognized at NRECA’s Region VIII – X meeting held November 1 - 2, 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ, for his commitment to education and attainment of the Credentialed Cooperative Director certificate before an audience of more than 875 electric cooperative officials from seven states, including Texas.
Anderle has served on Fayette Electric Cooperative’s board representing members in District 5 since 2016.
Today’s electric utility environment imposes new demands on electric cooperative directors, particularly for increased knowledge of changes in the electric utility business, new governance skills and a working knowledge of the cooperative principles. Fayette Electric Cooperative has a commitment to work through NRECA to sharpen this body of knowledge for the benefit of their electric cooperative member-owners.
The NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director, or CCD, program requires attendance and demonstrated understanding of the basic competencies contained in five core courses:
- Director Duties and Liabilities
- Understanding the Electric Business
- Board Roles and Relationships
- Strategic Planning
- Financial Decision-Making
The NRECA Region VIII-X meeting was the seventh in a series of seven 2017 regional meetings convened by the NRECA. The regional meetings continue the association’s grassroots policy-making process, which begins at the local co-op level and culminates at the NRECA Annual Meeting. Represented at the meeting were electric co-ops from New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Arizona.
NRECA represents the nation’s more than 900 private, member-owned electric cooperatives, which provide electric service to 42 million people in 47 states. Fayette Electric Cooperative, member-owned since 1937, serves over 9,600 members in Fayette, Colorado, Lavaca, Lee, Austin, Bastrop and Washington counties.
