Fayette Electric Cooperative is urging caution this week after one of its members, a business owner, was recently targeted in a phone scam. The caller claimed to be from PXU and they were a contractor for Fayette Electric Cooperative. They stated that personnel from the Cooperative were on their way to disconnect the business owner’s power because his account was delinquent. The member hung up on the scammer and called Fayette Electric to check the status of their account.
Fayette Electric does not use PXU Electric Delivery to contact its members regarding the status of their bill or service.
These types of calls have been occurring over the past several years and are part of a nationwide utility fraud scheme that has been a growing concern for many utilities.
If you should receive a suspicious call stating you will be disconnected or demanding immediate payment, hang up and call Fayette Electric Cooperative at 979-968-3181 to verify the balance on your account and report the details of the call.
